Alcherri ( Basque. Altxerri , [ al'tʃeri ]) - a cave in Spain , located near San Sebastian , near the village of Ayia . The cave was discovered by chance during road works, but did not arouse interest. Her study began only in 1962 by a group of young enthusiasts. Soon a door was installed to restrict entry into the cave. In the same year, during the inspection of the cave, the first petroglyphs were found, and a little later, stone tools were found. Rock drawings depict: bison, deer, foxes, fish, saigas, ibex and birds. In 1996 a German explorer published a book called Ekain and Altxerri about the cave. 11 km south-west of Alcheri is the cave of Ekain .
