Biography
Leonid Kirillovich Ryzhiy before the Great Patriotic War graduated from two courses of the Nikopol Agroforestry and Reclamation College, the flying club and the Kachin Military Aviation School.
He took part in the Great Patriotic War from October 1941 to May 1942 as part of the 743th fighter aviation regiment, and from December 1942 to May 1945 - as part of the 347th IAP.
May 17, 1942 was seriously wounded in an air battle over the Taman Peninsula. He won most of his victories on the Yak-9 fighter. He made 289 sorties, conducted 96 air battles, in which he shot down 21 enemy aircraft personally and 1 in a pair [1] . Among the cars he shot down were: He-111 , Yu-88 , Yu-87 , Me-109 , FV-190 .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of May 15, 1946, the squadron commander of the 347th fighter aviation regiment of the 193th fighter aviation division of the 13th fighter aviation corps of the 16th air army, Captain Ryzhiy Leonid Kirillovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Gold Star Medal No. 9024.
In 1951 he graduated from the Air Force Academy , and in 1963 - from the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University . Dismissed to the reserve with the rank of colonel . He worked as a teacher at the Military Academy of Chemical Protection. Last years he lived in Moscow.
