Biography

Born in evacuation in the Vologda region. On returning from the front, the father took a drink, and the mother (pharmacist) with two children moved to Leningrad. As a child, he lived in the center, not far from Palace Square , later he lived on Vasilievsky Island near the Smolensk cemetery .

From an early age he was fond of drawing. From 1956 to 1961 he studied at the School of Art at the I. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture , in the same class as Mikhail Shemyakin , with whom he was friends. He graduated from the secondary school in 1961 .

As Mikhail Yasnov [1] notes: “He was supposed to be an artist, but, in his own words,“ did not defend himself as a painter “. In the early sixties, Grigoriev was expelled from the art school at the Academy of Arts. They expelled me because he painted something wrong and wrong. For being mocking and scandalous. Because he had a special look, capturing the ridiculous and tragic illogicality of life. "

Later Grigoryev worked as a watchman, fireman, janitor. In 1961 he composed the quatrain “I asked the electrician Petrov”, which became a famous “children's folk” poem.

In 1971 he published the first book of children's poems and short stories under the name "Eccentrics", which became popular; for several works from it ("Hospitality", "Orange"), the issues of the journal " Jumble " were made. Many of his poems entered the St. Petersburg city folklore .

His poems are aphoristic, paradoxical, elements of absurdity and black humor , because of which he is often placed on a par with Daniel Harms and other Oberiuts . However, Grigoriev differs from them in more directness, sincerity and children's vulnerability.

In the early 1970s he was sentenced to two years "for parasitism", served his sentence in forced labor - the construction of a plant in the Vologda region. About this period, the poet responded in one of his poems:

With a shaved head
In the shape of a striped
Communism i build
Crowbar and shovel.

He was prematurely released. In 1975 he took part in the famous exhibition in the recreation center "Nevsky" [2] .

In 1981, his second children's book, Vitamin Growth, was published in Moscow. Poems from it caused indignation among some representatives of official literary circles, in particular Sergei Mikhalkov , and Grigoriev was not accepted into the Union of Writers of the USSR . In June of that year, the article “What are the Sparrows Guilty of?” Was published in Komsomolskaya Pravda (the title refers to one of his poems, Sazon), which criticized Grigoriev along with two other poets.

In 1985, Leonid Desyatnikov wrote a one-act classical opera for children, for soloists and piano, “Vitamin of Growth” based on the eponymous poem by Oleg Grigoriev. In 1988, the eponymous cartoon was shot based on the same poem (dir. Vasily Kafanov )

Grigoriev’s next book, Talking Raven, was published in perestroika in 1989. In the same year he received a second conviction (“for a row and resistance to the police”) with a suspended sentence; many poets and writers then spoke in his defense. Six months before his death, he was admitted to the Writers' Union [1] .

Died April 30, 1992 in St. Petersburg from perforation of a stomach ulcer .

He was buried in St. Petersburg, at the Volkovsky cemetery . After his death, several colorfully decorated books with his works were published, including those translated into German and French.

Daughter Maria, she lived in an orphanage for several years [3] .

  • In the last years of his life, Oleg Grigoryev spent a lot of time with friends at Pushkinskaya.

Mikhail Yasnov recalls:

“The poor fellow, the drunkard, the headache of the police and the delight of the clunking drunks, almost homeless, scattering his poems in their temporary havens, he was a man of bright mind, educated, amazingly organic. In sober minutes - a charming, intelligent, ironic interlocutor, while drunk - a monster that burns his life and leads to the frenzy of others. This combustible mixture of the heights of being and the bottom of everyday life pervaded his verses, made them look like nothing, turned dirty, shameful, but such real outskirts of life into a fact of true history ” [5] .

  • The Yat group in 1991 recorded the album The Little Men, all of whose songs were written on verses by Oleg Grigoriev.
  • As a literary character appears in the novel with the devilry of Stanislav Shulyak “Apartment number nine” [6] : “It's strange, now neither Lermontov nor Brodsky occupied Ivan Nikiforovich, the poet Oleg Grigoryev became his only rival. In some ways they were similar. Yes, right, Grigoriev, like Ivan Nikiforovich, wrote his verses always and everywhere, both drunk and sober (although he was rarely the last), and angry and funny. But here in some ways he nevertheless surpassed Shokoladov: he had books, and at the end of his life he even entered into a writers' union. “The soul, the soul must be sold,” said Chocolates gloomily.
  • In April 2019, the exhibition “Oleg Grigoriev. Opened in the Museum of Anna Akhmatova in St. Petersburg It’s cold to be human. ” [7]
