Valentin Bodnieks was born on September 22, 1908 in St. Petersburg . Brother - metal artist James Bodnieks (1910-1987).
He studied at the drawing and painting studio of the Riga National Higher School under U. Skulme , R. Suta and K. Ubana (1924-1925) and at the Studio of Decorative and Applied Arts of the Latvian National University (1924-1937).
He worked as a woodcarver in the Pasha Darbs association (1936-1945), and since 1945, the Maxla Art Works
Member of the Union of Artists of Latvia (since 1945). He was awarded the gold medal of the exhibition of Latvian decorative and applied art in Berlin (1936) and the bronze medal of the World Exhibition in Brussels (1958).
He took part in exhibitions since 1934. He worked in the technique of carving and inlay using amber decorative finishes. The author of a large number of various interior items, wooden decorative dishes, folk musical instruments and furniture.
He died on October 2, 1984 in Riga, was buried in the Yauntsiem cemetery [1] .
