Country Na ( 奴 国, な こ く / な の く に nakoku / nanokuni ) [1] is one of the countries of the people of wa , the ancient inhabitants of the Japanese archipelago , mentioned in Chinese historical chronicles. The Chinese name is the country of Well or Nugo.

The country of Na is mentioned in the History of the Late Han Dynasty and the Tradition of the Wah People from the History of the Wei State . Chinese chronicles define it as a socio-political organization of the Wah people, the ancient Japanese.
The History of the Late Han Dynasty describes the arrival of the ambassadors of the country of Na with a tribute to China in 57. It is reported that the ambassadors called themselves “great men” of Dafu . In response to the tribute, the Chinese emperor Guang Wu-di presented the ruler of the country with the title of Wang and a golden seal . In this regard, this country became a member of the China- centric system of international relations and, at the same time, recognized its dependence on China.
“The Tradition of Wah People from the History of the Wei State” tells the story of a country of the 3rd century. She is dependent on a powerful neighbor, the Japanese state of Yamatai , which is led by a woman named Himiko . This dependence is indicated by the lack of mention of the country's own van and a report of local officials.

Based on the "History of the Kingdom of Wei", the country of Na is traditionally located in the north of the Japanese island of Kyushu . The find in 1784 of a gold seal that was donated by the Chinese in the 1st century helped to localize the country in the modern city of Fukuoka of the prefecture of the same name. Historians believe that it could be in the area of modern Na Bay or the Nanokawa quarter of Fukuoka.
After the III century, information about the country On in Chinese sources disappear. However, in the 8th century Japanese chronicles describing the times of the young Japanese state of Yamato of the 3rd – 4th centuries, such an administrative unit as the Na district ( Japanese 儺 県, な の あ が た na no agata ) is mentioned, which was located on the territory of modern Fukuoka. This message may indicate the entry of the former country of Na into Yamato in the 3rd century [3] .
