History
The history of the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the Udmurt Republic begins in 1931, when the Udmurt Drama Theater was opened, in which in 1934-1935-ies. The opera company worked. It was composed by soloists of the State Bolshoi Academic Theater and the Moscow Regional Opera Theater G. F. Zemlyakov, K. N. Rushev, A. A. Rybakov, S. K. Shekhov, S. A. Shturbina, S. I. Feofilov and I. I. Yakushin. At the same time a theater orchestra of 30 people worked, the conductor of which was composer D. S. Vasiliev-Buglay , and a choir of 40 people. Through the efforts of N. A. Gorsky, the ballet master, a ballet studio was created for working youth, which became the basis for the ballet troupe of the Dramatic Theater.
For two years, the opera troupe staged such operas as “ Mermaid ”, “ Prince Igor ”, “ Eugene Onegin ”, “ The Tsar's Bride ”, “ Chio-Chio-San ”, “ Faust ”, “The Barber of Seville ”.
In June 1935, the State Russian Drama Theater and the State Udmurt Drama Theater began to work in Izhevsk. In 1958, the Music and Drama Theater began to work, which in 1973 was reorganized into the Musical Theater of the UASSR.
His repertoire included a classical operetta, a musical comedy by Russian and Soviet authors, as well as performances by the composers of Udmurtia. In the future, the theater team expanded the theater repertoire to include classical opera and ballet performances, as well as works by Udmurtia's composers. At the same time, work began on the creation of the Opera and Ballet Theater.
The current building of the theater was built in 1984, its auditorium seats 824 spectators.
In 1993, the theater received the status of the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the Udmurt Republic.
Theater today
The State Opera and Ballet Theater of the Udmurt Republic is the only academic theater in Udmurtia. The repertoire of the theater includes works by P. I. Tchaikovsky : the ballets “ Swan Lake ”, “ The Nutcracker ”, “The Sleeping Beauty ” and the operas “ Eugene Onegin ”, “ Iolanta ”, “ The Queen of Spades ”. Classical operas by V. Bellini , G. Bizet , D. Verdi , G. Donizetti , R. Leoncavallo , P. Mascagni , J. Puccini , S. Rachmaninov , J. Rossini are also staged here. Operetta are presented as classic “The Bat ”, “The Czardash Queen ”, “ Maritza ”, “The Merry Widow ”, “The Beautiful Galatea ”, and the domestic works of “Ladies' Master”, “ My wife is a liar ”, “ Babi riot ”, “ Russian secret ”, “ Tricks of Khanum ”. The musical "On the Edge of Love", which is also put on the stage of the theater, is based on Udmurt folk legends.
The ballet troupe of the theater also performs in a non-classical style - these are the ballets "Gone with the Wind", "Romeo and Juliet - the 20th Century", "Don't Be Jealous of me to Broadway", "Vivat, Dyagilev!"
The theater has repeatedly given tours in many cities of Russia, guest artists from other theaters often perform in it, theater soloists participate in the productions of domestic and foreign theaters.
