History
The club was founded under the name "Venados de Yucatán" in 1988 and began a performance in the Segund. Under this name, the club played until its first dissolution in 2001, when the club played in the second league of Mexican football for many seasons.
In 2002, the team was revived as Atletico Yucatan, but it was soon disbanded.
On the second attempt, in 2003, the brothers Arturo and Mauricio Milliet Reyes, on the basis of the franchise they bought the second division from the club “Nacional de Tijuana”, the club “Merida” was created. Thus, the Miletus brothers tried to restore the team of the second division in the city after the previous local club “Atletico Yucatan” ceased to exist. The best result of the team was reaching the semi-finals of the Klausura 2004 tournament. After the Klausur 2005 tournament, the Millet brothers sold the franchise to the Irapuato club, citing economic problems due to low attendance and insufficient funding by the local administration.
Soon, Miletus organized a new team that began performing in the amateur league of the state of Yucatan, and also opened a training center in Argentina to attract local talent. The new team made it to the lower professional division (Tercera), where they performed for a year, and then broke up.
In 2008, Arturo Migliet bought the Monarkas Morelia A farm team of the Monarkas Morelia club, which played in the second division. Miglet said that he plans to leave the team in Merida, including if the team manages to reach the top division. The club won the 2009 Klausura tournament, but lost to the Queretaro club in the penalty shootout in the playoffs for reaching the big leagues.
In 2015, with the advent of the new president, Rodolfo Rosas Cantillo, Merida was renamed Venados. This was done in order to associate the team with the state of Yucatan , and not just with the city where the club is based.
