Biography
Born and raised in Tula. She began her career with the Tula Regional Philharmonic Society - she was a soloist in the ensemble "Uslada" [1] . In parallel with the "Delight" she studied at the Tula Music College. Dargomyzhsky . After graduation, she entered the Moscow State Music and Pedagogical Institute named after M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov , then for several years she gave a course of lectures in it to decipher and arrange folk songs [2] [3] .
In 2005, Romanova, along with jazz singer Khristina Kuznetsova , became a member of the Zventa Sventana project. In addition to the soloists, the project involved jazz and pop musicians, as well as DJs and musicians who create electronic music [4] . In search of samples of the song heritage of the Russian people, the girls repeatedly went on ethnographic expeditions to Tula , Smolensk and other regions of Russia. The result of these trips were compositions - creative arrangements of folk songs created with the help of both Russian folk instruments and modern ones - strings, piano, saxophone [5] .
In the summer of 2006, the musical start of Zventa Sventana took place at three festivals in a row - Manor Jazz in Arkhangelsk, Etnolife in Sorochany, Moscow Region, and Jazz Q in St. Petersburg. In November 2006, one of the Moscow clubs hosted the presentation of the first Zventa Sventana album, Suffering. Such jazz musicians as Anatoly Gerasimov, Sergey Starostin, Sergey Klevensky, Anton Davidyants took part in the recording. The debut album of Zventa Sventana was rated by Peter Gabriel , a former lead singer of Genesis , one of the most influential experts working in this area. In 2006, during the performance of Zventa Sventana at the JAZZ Q Jazz Festival, the singing of Romanova Kuznetsova was recognized as the opening of the year. [6]
In 2007, the Zventa Sventana project won the Golden Gargoyle Independent Music Award in the World Music category. [7]
In the summer of 2007, the Internet publication Time Out named the girls from Zventa Sventana folk divas, along with Pelageya, Helavisa and Inna Zhelannaya. [eight]
In addition to the festivals mentioned, Alyona Romanova, as the vocalist of the Zventa Sventana project, together with Khristina Kuznetsova took part in such festivals as NuNote Lounge Fest 2007 [9] , Cityjazz-2007 [10] , “ Invasion ” -2007 [11] , “Invasion” ”-2008 [12] ,“ Sayan Ring ”, 2009 [13] ,“ Wild Mint 2009 ” [14] and many others.
In 2006, Romanova, together with the ensemble " Ladushki ", spoke at the opening of the first All-Russian Congress of Folklorists in Moscow. [15] [16]
In 2010, Romanova became the backing vocalist of the DDT group (according to Boris Barabanov, “actually dividing the vocal parts with Yuri Shevchuk” [17] ). Her first joint performance with DDT took place on September 4, 2010 at a group concert in Krasnoyarsk [18] .
“ Yura saw our performance on the Internet, he liked it. He called and said: “Maybe you’ll come to St. Petersburg, try to do something together?” They tried, they did, in my opinion, it turned out ” [19] .
Participation in DDT caused positive reviews from music critics and fans of the group [20] [21] [22] . Romanova took part in the recordings of the albums Otherwise (2011), Transparent (2014), and also participated in DDT international tours with the programs Otherwise, Solnick and Transparent.
In October 2014, together with the DDT musicians Konstantin Shumailov , Alexei Fedichev , Roman Nevelev and Tema Mamay, she created her solo project Alyona . [23] The presentation of the first album of the ALYONA project is expected in October 2015 [24] :
We called our album "Think." It will be powerful, with overloaded guitars, hard drums, somewhere with elements of electronic sound. But the presence of live instruments, including ethnic ones, is, of course, an integral part of the album. There will be songs and lyrical, quivering. Their sound corresponds to the content and energy. Many songs from the archives, there are songs that are recorded on expeditions. As Yuri Yulianovich says on this occasion: “I traveled through the villages, drank moonshine with grandmothers, and collected folk songs bit by bit”. [25]
Romanova is a laureate of numerous national and international competitions. In particular, she is a laureate of the All-Russian vocal competition "Ethnic - 2002" [26] , as well as the owner of the Grand Prix of the contest " Voices of Russia ". [27]
