Content
Story
Season 1
Assad and Ayan are Muslims, stepbrothers on the father. Because of the family feud caused by their father’s second marriage, Rashid Ahmed Khan, the brothers live separately in the same city, Bhopal. Despite the ban of relatives, Assad and Ayan have secretly been friends since childhood. Once in a mosque (darga), both brothers meet a crying girl dressed as a bride (Zoya). This meeting is the beginning of many troubles for the brothers.
Zoya is a Muslim woman who grew up in New York, assimilated the values of American culture and used to defend her rights. She comes to her homeland to find out the truth about her past and find her own father. To fulfill her goal, Zoya refuses to marry a man whom her relatives have chosen as her husband. Within a few days after escaping from her wedding, she becomes a girl next door to the eldest of the brothers, and a mysterious stranger, whom he has not been able to meet for a long time, for the youngest. As a result, Zoya sees Assad every day, and communicates with Ayan (“Robert”) over the phone, using the pseudonym Mona. Unaware of the kinship between Assad and Ayan, Zoya accidentally meets their father and tries to help him make peace with his first wife, Assad's mother. The search for her father brings Zoya to the house of Rashid Ahmed Khan and the opening of the investigation in the case of the "doll factory", where her mother died, who was killed by Raziya Siddiki. But Razia Siddiqui, who lives in Rashid's house, is persistently trying to convince the girl that her real father is dead and she should not stay in India, although Zoe’s father is her husband, and a stranger named Tanvir is trying to destroy her personal life.
After Tanvir kills all family members and leaves alive only Dilsha, the daughters of Assad and Zoe, Sanam and Seher and the daughter of Assad's sister, Haya.
Season 2
After 20 years, the daughter of Assad and Zoe Sanam decides to move from Punjab to Bhopal in the hope of changing their life for the better. The rich businessman Achilles is oppressed by a deep trauma from distant childhood, it does not allow him to feel happy. Meeting Sanam with Achilles will be fateful, it will change their lives forever. But there it was, Tanvir becomes the blind stepmother of Achilles, the one that ruined the life of Assad and Zoe. Does Sanam know the whole truth about Tanvir? Will Sanam and Achilles be able to overcome all the hardships and trials that fall on their lot in order to stay together and become happy?
Season 3
Due to circumstances in which the second wife of Akhil Raz Ibrahim, the new Sanam, Sekher falls under the truck, and Sanam falls into Pakistan and loses his memory. There she is attacked by robbers, and in order to save her, Major Shaad Aftab Khan has to lie that Sanam is his wife. Then the major calls Sanam by the name of Jannat. Thus, Sanam begins to live in the major's house, thinking that she is his wife. After some time, Achilles finds his Sanam and, under the pretext of temporary residence, asks Shaad and Jannat to live in his house. Concept and Creation
According to the idea of its producer and director Gul Khan, the television series Concord was supposed to fill the vacuum on Indian television, connected with the rare coverage of the life of the Muslim ummah in India, against the backdrop of many television series about the life of Hindus . As a female director, Gul Khan set a goal to reveal the rights of women in Islam in this television series and to demonstrate Muslim culture on the example of one of the Indian cities [2] [3] . In particular, the characters of the television series communicate in Urdu , a language widely spread among Muslims in India [4] , and some of them compose verses typical for Urdu poetry (“Shayari”) [5] .
"Consent" became the third Indian television series about the life of Muslims: its appearance was preceded by the television series (1991) and (1998-2003) [6] [7] . The Concord series show the impact of globalization on the lifestyle and cultural stereotypes of Muslims who have grown up in different countries (in India and the USA), migration problems and phenomena that occur in modern Indian society regardless of religious affiliation, for example, discrimination based on skin color [ 8] , abuse of local authority by their own power.
Most characters have “speaking” names and surnames [9] [10] [11] , which are related to their character and behavior:
- The name “Zoya” is translated from Greek as “life”. The character bearing this name demonstrates cheerfulness.
- The surname Zoe (Faruki) translates as “separating the truth from error” (see Sura Al-Furkan ).
- Zoe’s foster family has the surname Razzak, which means “endowing”, “bestowing inheritance” and comes from one of Allah ’s 99 names .
- The surname held by Rashid Ahmed Khan, as well as his wives and children, means "overlord."
- Rashid is an Arabic name that means “leader”, “following the right path” and also goes back to one of the 99 names of Allah [12] . In addition, the name "Rashid" according to the treatise "Jawahir al-Awliya" ("Jewels of Saints") of the Sufi mystic from the tariqah Suhrawardiya refers to 99 names of the prophet Muhammad [13] .
- Assad is an Arabic name with the main meaning "lion". A character with this name considers himself an example of proper behavior in his family.
- Ayan is an Arabic name (literally "when"), which means "see with your own eyes," "clear." This character tells his brother about all the events in their father’s house as an eyewitness.
- The Siddiki family, which plotted against Rashid Ahmed Khan and tricked him into abandoning his first wife, on the contrary, refutes the meaning contained in her surname (“faithful”, “truthful”, “honest”) and names.
- Gafur is an Arabic name meaning "forgiving", "merciful." A character with this name is intolerant of the mistakes of his relatives.
- Raziah is an Arabic name with the meaning “pleasant”, “beloved”. This character is the most unpleasant family member in the house of Rashid Ahmed Khan.
- Humeirah is an Arabic name with the meaning "red-cheeked", the nickname of one of the wives of the prophet Muhammad. A television series character with this name has poor health.
- Tanvir is an Arabic name with the meaning of “illuminate,” “illuminate.” In contrast to the meaning of his name, Tanvir in the television series complicates the relationship between other characters, and also participates in "dark", "dirty" affairs - deception, attempted murders and the like.
The Indian press also noted the significant influence of the character Salman Khan in the film (2011) on the images of the two leading male characters in the television series [14] .
Casting
Leading roles were played by actors who are not Muslims: Surbhi Joti is a Hindu [15] , and does not profess any religion, but prays [16] .
For actor Rishabha Sinha, participation in this television series was his debut (before that, he only participated in the fifth season of the reality show on MTV ). During the filming, the actor Rishabh Sinha received an official notification of unprofessional behavior: despite an exclusive contract, he stopped coming to the filming and did not inform the television producers in a timely manner about the reasons for his absence - filming in Subhash Ghai's Kaanchi movie [17] [18] . Instead of Rishabha Sinha, a more experienced television actor, chosen for his role [19] .
After a series of poisonings by Humeira Siddika during an engagement, actress , who played her role, did not take part in the filming for a week, as she passed exams in Pune [20] .
In March 2013, (the role of Nuzkhat Ahmed Khan) was fired from the television series. The reason for her dismissal was her quarrels with other actors (Surbhi Joti, Rishabh Sinha, ) and the intervention of her parents, who were constantly present on the set, in the filming process. In addition, on the eve of her dismissal, the actress was detained by the police [21] . Farina Parvez, a schoolgirl who has already shown herself in another television series, was taken in her place [22] .
Filming
The shooting took place in several states of India ( Madhya Pradesh , Rajasthan ). However, their main place was Bhopal - a city known for its Muslim rulers. The first series begins with a demonstration of the view and the prayer hall of the Taj-ul-Masjid mosque, the construction of which was started during the reign of Bahadur Shah II by a female Navaba of the Principality of Bhopal Shah Jahan-begum.
On the territory of Rajasthan, the shooting took place in Ajmer , Pushkar and Jaipur . The scene in the sand dunes was filmed in Pushkar in conditions of intense heat, which affected the health and appearance of the actors, in addition, had to walk barefoot on the sand [23] . During the filming of reconciliation between Zoe and Assad at Fort Amer and the tomb of Sufi Muinuddin Chishti (darga Ajmer-i-Sharif) in Ajmer, the air temperature reached 44 degrees Celsius. But despite this, there were clusters of fans who demanded that Surbhi Joti utter a phrase that became characteristic of her character - “ Allah is mine, what's wrong with you ?!” In addition, one of the fans of the television series demanded a meeting with Karan Singh Grover, threatening to jump from the Amer fortress in case of failure [24] .
