Lasma Hermanovna Kauniste (nee Avotinia) ( lat.Lāsma Kauniste , April 19, 1942 , Riga , Latvia ) - Soviet Latvian skater , world champion in 1969, participant in the 1968 Olympics. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR [1] .

Biography

Lasma Avotinja was born on April 14, 1942 in Riga . She trained with the first Latvian European champion and silver medalist of the 1939 World Cup Alfons Berzins .

In 1962, she married Estonian skater Toyvo Kauniste, they settled in Riga. In 1967, Lasma Kauniste, speaking for the USSR , won a silver medal at the World Championships in all-around, and in 1969 a gold medal. She took second place three times at the USSR Championship in all-around. In 1968 she took part in the Winter Olympic Games, her best result was fifth in the distance of 1,500 m.

Lasma Kauniste continues to perform in speed skating, participating in the World Champion Masters. In the category over 60, she won in 2002 and 2004. In 2011 she won in the category of 65-70 years [2] .
