Nikolai Lev Sapieha ( Polish Mikołaj Leon Sapieha , 1644 - February 1 - June 10, 1685 ) - statesman and military leader of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth , royal captain ( 1670 ), Volynsky chestnut ( 1677 - 1683 ), Bratslav governor ( 1683 - 1685 ). Biography
The representative of the kodensky line of the noble Lithuanian magnate clan Sapeg emblem " Fox ". The eldest son of the full clerk of the crown, Jan Frederic Sapieha ( 1618 - 1664 ) and Constance Herbut. The younger brothers are the governor of the Trox, Casimir Vladislav, and the bishop of Zhemait, Pavel Frantisek Sapieha .
In 1664, after the death of his father, Nikolai Lev Sapega led his Cossack banner. In December 1666, he participated in the unsuccessful battle for the Polish army near Brailov , where his detachment suffered significant losses. In 1667 he was elected ambassador to the Sejm.
In 1673, Nikolai Lev Sapega, at the head of his gonfalon, participated in the defeat of the Polish-Lithuanian army Jan Sobieski Turkish troops at the Battle of Khotyn . In 1676 he participated in a military campaign at the head of his own armor-plated banner. In 1677, he received the post of Volkinsky chestnut .
