Geography
The city is located in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, on the right bank of the Chhoti-Sarju River ( Ganges basin), at an altitude of 63 meters above sea level [1] . Mau is located approximately 270 kilometers east-southeast (ESE) from Lucknow , the state’s administrative center, and 680 kilometers east-southeast of New Delhi , the country's capital.
Demographics
According to the 2011 official census , the population of the city was 279,060 people, of whom 51.3% were men, 48.7% were women. Adult literacy rate was 67.1%. The literacy rate among men was 71.8%, among women - 62.3%. 14.6% of the population were children under 6 years of age [2] . The dynamics of the population of the city by years:
