Palm Desert is a city in Riverside County in southern California , USA , located in the Coachella Valley , about 18 km south of Palm Springs . In 2000, 41.155 people lived in the city, and as of 2010 - already 48.445. The city has been one of the fastest growing in the state since 1980.

Content

History

The area was originally known as the Old MacDonald Ranch , but after planting palm trees in 1920, the name changed to Palm Village . The first residential buildings date back to 1943 due to the fact that the American army camp was in that area. In 1948, Palm Desert Corporation began construction of real estate, and already in 1951 the district was given its current name. At the same time, Palm Desert was the planned desert settlement that connects Palm Springs and Indio . The community was registered on November 26, 1973, with only 1,500 permanent residents.

Geography

Palm Desert is located in the Coachella Valley . According to the US Census Bureau , the city has a total area of ​​70 km², of which 0.76% is water. Altitude (City Hall) is 68 m above sea level.

Climate

The high mountain ranges on three sides and the southward-inclined valley led to a unique and year-round warm climate with the warmest winters in the western United States. The highest temperature recorded in Palm Desert was 52 ° C on July 6, 1905. [1] The climate is quite arid.

In 2010, 48,445 people lived in the city, of whom 23,117 are homeowners, of whom 4,253 (18.4%) have children below the age of 18 years, 10,253 (44.4%) are married and live together, 1,227 (5.3%) are not living together, 373 (1.6%) are same-sex partners. Culture

The city is home to the Palm Desert Scene - a unique group of artists, a significant part of which are played by stoner rock , the founder of which was the local band Kyuss .

Also, this city is the place where TTM (Taller Then Midles) SuperShop USA Custom Built Guitar [4] guitars are produced, which are direct competitors of such companies as BC Rich and Kiesel (Carvin) Custom shop .
