He graduated from Harvard University ( 1950 ), received a Ph.D. in sociology in 1958. Student and collaborator of Tolkott Parsons , in politics - communitarianist . Since 1957 - Professor at Harvard University, since 1967 - University of California at Berkeley. Introduced the concept of a civil religion in America ( 1967 ).
