The National Library of Poland ( Polish: Biblioteka Narodowa w Warszawie ) is the largest Polish scientific library subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The library is located in Warsaw . Special funds are stored in the Krasinsky Palace . The National Library of Poland receives an obligatory copy of all publications published in Poland. In addition to the Warsaw Library, the Library of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow also has national status.

History
The first national library was founded in Poland in the 18th century . It was founded by the Warsaw bishops of the Zalu brothers. In 1774, the Zaluski Library was transferred to the Commission on National Education. In 1817, the Ossolinium library was founded in Lviv - one of the most significant cultural institutions in Galicia . February 24, 1928 was founded the current national library of Poland. The opening of the library took place in 1930 .
Before World War II, the library had in its funds:
- 3000 old printed books;
- 2200 incunabul;
- 52,000 manuscripts;
- collection of cards, icons and musical scores.
In 1940, the library funds were subordinate to the German occupation authority. German-language publications were seized and put up for use exclusively by the Germans in the premises of the closed Warsaw University at that time. Valuable books were transferred to the Krasinski Palace in Warsaw . After the defeat of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, all these books were burned.
Library Funds
Today the National Library of Poland has in its collections more than 7.9 million storage units (data for 2004). There were more than 160,000 volumes in the library's repositories, 26,000 manuscripts published before 1801 (of which 6,887 musical manuscripts), 114,000 musical scores, 101,000 atlases and maps, 2,000,000 books, and 800,000 annual sets of magazines of the 19th β 21st centuries.
