Biography
Born into a peasant family in 1896 .
A student of the University of Dorpat in 1916 joined the RSDLP , conducted party work in Estonia . Member of the February and October revolutions. In the spring of 1918 he organized one of the first cells of the Communist Party of Lithuania in the territory occupied by German troops; delegate to the constituent underground party congress (October 1918).
After the fall of Soviet power in Lithuania (August 1919 ) at underground party work in Raseiniai and Kaunas , where in 1920 he created the illegal party printing house Spartakas, he was the editor of the newspaper Tesa , an organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania, and a number of other party publications. Since 1921, member, since 1923 Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania . Delegate of the 5th Congress of the Comintern ( 1924 ).
The military coup in Lithuania (1926)
Arrested after a coup in Lithuania on December 17 under the leadership of Smetona . Together with other senior officials of the Lithuanian Communist Party, he appeared before a military tribunal on charges of preparing for a communist uprising and, together with Juozas Greifenbergeris , Rapolas Charnas and Kazis Giedris, was sentenced to death . Convicts were shot on December 27, 1926 in the VI fort of Kaunas.

- Son - Juras Pozhela , physicist, former President of the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania, laureate of the 1978 Lenin Prize .
Memory
- In Soviet times in Vilnius , Poželos Street was named after him.
- In 1973, the monument “Four Communists” (aka “Four Communards”; sculptors Bronius Vishnyauskas and Napoleonas Pyatrulis ) was erected in Kaunas , is now in the exhibition of Soviet sculptures in the Grutas park [1] .
