Biography
Peteris Balodis was born on August 19, 1867 in the village of Burtnieki of the Wolmar county of the Livonia province of the Russian Empire (now the Burtnieki region of Latvia ).
In 1888 he entered as a volunteer at the Imperial Academy of Arts , graduated with the title of class artist of the third degree (1894). Improved in the studio of the artist V. Makovsky (1894-1896).
In his student years he worked with the artist J. Rosenthal . He was a member of the St. Petersburg Latvian art circle " Rukis ". He worked as a drawing teacher at the Arkhangelsk Gymnasium (1896-1916). In his work he was close to the ideological views of the Wanderers .
He died in November 1919 in Arkhangelsk (in the Latvian encyclopedic publications there is no information about the exact date of the artist’s death) [1] .
