Biography

Born in the family of the titular adviser Kirill Ivanovich Bazhenov, a small nobleman of the Tula province . He studied at the Tula gymnasium and Moscow University . He served in the Moscow military hospital , then held various medical posts in the provinces of Tula, Olonetsk , Novgorod , Tomsk and Simbirsk . In 1844, he took the place of the healer at the powder factory in Kazan .

In 1847, he published his “Kazan Story” [2] , which he wanted to bring to the General-Feldzeichmeister, Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich . But Bazhenov’s immediate superior, General Yakov Petrovich Tebenkov , refused to submit the book to the Grand Duke. Bazhenov made this offering personally on his own behalf, sending the book by mail, while writing to His Highness. The consequence of such a violation of etiquette and official subordination adopted in such cases was the dismissal of Bazhenov from service without petition. His situation became hopeless: a large family in his arms, a complete lack of livelihoods and the debts he entered into when publishing his essay forced him to enlist as a freelance scribe in the Kazan provincial government.

He suddenly died of cholera on June 25 ( July 7 ), 1848 , on the same day as his 13-year-old son [1] . In addition to Kazan History, which embraces the history of the Kazan Region from the era of the Volga Bulgars until 1847 and has still not lost the importance of a reference book when studying local history, Bazhenov published several other works and placed several small articles and notes on the history of the Kazan Region in local Provincial Gazette; among them:

  • Notes on the Raifa desert, the cross in Akah and the Kazan monastery . - Kazan, 1845.
  • A trip to the gold mines. - Kazan: type. Lip. corrected., 1846. - 82 p.
  • Solemn reconciliation, or the only husband and wonderful mediation. A joke-vaudeville. - Kazan: Univ. typ., 1846. - 48 p.
  • Sailing to the Zilantov Monastery and Kazan Monument . - M.: At the University Printing House, 1846. - 36 p.
