Biography
Nikolay Kadun was born on May 5, 1919 in the village of Baturin (now a city in the Bakhmach district of the Chernihiv region of Ukraine ). He graduated from eight classes of school. In 1936, Kadun was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1938 he graduated from the Leningrad Military Artillery School. Since July 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the South-Western and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. By December 1943, Captain Nikolay Kadun commanded the division of the 103rd Guards Cannon Artillery Regiment of the 6th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front [1] .
On December 10 - 15, 1943, the Kaduna division participated in battles at the bridgehead on the western bank of the Dnieper south-west of Zaporozhye , repelled a large number of German counterattacks, destroying several artillery batteries, more than 10 tanks, 5 armored vehicles, a large number of enemy soldiers and officers. When German troops broke through to his command post, Kadun fired on himself on the radio. Despite his wound, he continued to fight and direct the actions of his division [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, Captain Nikolai Kadun was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown by the guard." He did not manage to receive the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal , as in one of the battles on the territory of the Moldavian SSR he was seriously wounded, from whom he died on July 30, 1944. He was buried in Tiraspol [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Order of the Red Star [1] .
A street was named in honor of Kadun and a bust was installed in Baturin [1] .
