He began his career as a nurse in the therapeutic department of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1, worked as the chief physician of the Yablunivsky TB Dispensary and the chief physician of the Buchatsky District, and headed the health department of the Ternopil Regional State Administration.
Since November 2000, he has been the chief physician of the Ternopol Regional Tuberculosis Dispensary.
Since 2002, he has been the chief physician of the central polyclinic of the Desnyanskiy district, the head of the healthcare department of the Desnyanskiy district state administration of the capital.
Since April 2005 - Head of the Medical Department, Deputy Head of the State Department of Affairs.
Appointed to the post of Minister of Health of Ukraine in the second government of Yulia Tymoshenko by Decree of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine No. 10-VI of December 18, 2007.
Immediately after taking office, the new Minister of Health promised to bring Ukrainian medicine to the European level faster, but “without another revolution” on the way to the goal. Also among the top tasks outlined by V. Knyazevich is to increase the average life expectancy of a Ukrainian by three years in five years.
He lost his post due to the resignation of the Cabinet after winning the presidential election of Viktor Yanukovych .
