History

The debut album “I II III” was released in June 2012 [1] . At first, the disc, which did not receive wide reviews, ended up in the annual tops of independent publications [2] [3] .

Since September 2012, the group opened a new stage of activity by speaking at the Gogolfest festival. The following is a series of concerts in Kiev, Minsk and Moscow.

The single Podmoskovje / Vziat Siloj released in the spring of 2013 marked the group’s desire for orchestral sound and was welcomed by critics and the public [5] . In March 2013, a full-length mini-tour through the capitals of the nearest republics was held in support of the single. [6]

In the summer of 2013, the group continues to actively tour — FORMA, Stereoleto festivals, the first foreign tour to Georgia and concerts in Ukrainian cities.

In October 2013, the group began recording a new album. The Englishman Graham Sutton, known for working with These New Puritans, British Sea Power and Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), was invited to play the role of producer. Work on the release took about a year and covered several studios in Kiev and Moscow. The album Love Me Do was released in November 2014, it consists of 12 tracks (it also included the already released Podmoskovje / Vziat 'Siloj and EP Gladioulus released in the summer), in addition to Russian-language tracks on the disc there is a song in Ukrainian Kvіti. In terms of sound, musicians expanded the style palette by adding more electronic sound and disco-funk rhythms to it. The album received generally positive reviews - from restrained to the status of one of the best Russian-language releases of the year. [7] [8]

In support of the second big album in October 2014, the group conducted a Love Me Do tour in the cities of Ukraine, Russia, the Baltic States and Poland, having traveled more than 5,000 km and given 9 concerts for 12 days.

In April 2015, the group released the single Singapour / Taina [9] , which included rather unexpected reworkings of the songs of two outstanding masters of their era - Alexander Vertinsky and Leonid Utesov. In support of the single, the group gives a series of concerts in Ukraine, visiting Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv for the first time, and then goes on a big Singapore tour, covering a total of 13 cities of Ukraine and Russia and driving about 8000 km.

On February 10, 2017, the group announced the end of the concert, announcing a farewell tour [10] . As part of the tour, concerts were planned in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Minsk and Kiev.

Friends, we want to say that this is indeed so. We stop the concert activity. And the band is breaking up. I would not want to speculate much on this topic. But not reporting this to anyone who was going to listen to us is also wrong. Recently, we have put together an excellent program that will make the dead dance and melt the cold heart of any urban cynic. We suggest annealing with us at our April shows. Announcements will be separate posts. We are going to Moscow, Petersburg, Minsk. And of course, Kiev. See you at the concerts! We also want to add that none of us connects to music. [eleven]

Prologue

The group began its activities in 2007 as a side project of the bassist of the Moscow band Man Bites Dog . Already after a couple of months, the ensemble vividly declared itself by playing along with one of the nu-rave apologists by the Scots Shitdisco at the Gogol club. This is followed by a series of concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg, a trip to Poland and a peak performance as Russian headliners of the Moscow AVANT festival. However, further personal disagreements in the team and unsuccessful attempts to work in the studio lead to the dissolution of the project. The leader of the team Wojciech Dzerzhinsky is left alone with the outline of the material and the sound ideas of the future album.

The case was shifted in 2009 with the advent of the new bassist Andrzej Cherry (a member of Dido the Transformer) and drummer Mikhailo Mitskevich (a famous musician of many experimental jazz bands in Moscow). The group carries out successful sessions in the studio of Andrei Bochko and a year later records the main parts for the album. In the current formation, the ensemble gives one concert, after which the participants decide to leave the team in favor of working in the main projects. In summer, Wojciech, along with the equipment, moves to the cottage of friends and continues to work on the album. With the approach of autumn, the team leader finally leaves Moscow, changing his place of residence to the capital of the neighboring state, the city of Kiev. In Ukraine, many parts and instruments for the debut album were added. The album was mixed in the spring of 2012 in London by Joe Hirst (Yasmin, Ian Brown, dEUS). [12]

Notes

  1. ↑ Fashion Petersburg: DZIERZYNSKI BITZ - “ONCE, TWO, THREE” (2012). This is music in its purest sense, it goes far beyond the scope of the “next-post-punk indie band”, tagging, and all possible and impossible limits of the domestic music scene

  3. ↑ Colta.ru: Dzierzynski Bitz and the “New Twist”. Denis Boyarinov admires the debut album of an unknown group.
  4. ↑ OneAge: “I’ll roll the wave from memory”: an unusual new single, Dzierzynski Bitz. Archived copy of November 13, 2014 on Wayback Machine. Both tracks are very interesting: these are smart and tastefully arranged songs in good Russian, which in general develop the group's sixties style.
  5. ↑ Poster: Motherland playlist vol.3 These songs exist outside of modernity - but at the same time they did not exist in the past.
  6. ↑ Zvuki.ru: “More than Poland.” I want them to play at all the country's summer festivals.
  7. ↑ Colta.ru: What “New Twist” is made of The most interesting thing about Dzierzynski Bitz is that in their music they try to reduce the English-language pop tradition and the pop art of the countries of the socialist camp, restoring the torn musical continuum.
  8. ↑ Wonderzine: “Dzierzynski Bitz’s new wave romantics” Definitely one of the best Russian-language albums of the year that will easily become the perfect New Year soundtrack.
  9. ↑ Comma: “In Banana-Lemon Singapore” Our bright turquoise dream is to record and perform music in our native language so well that it is interesting regardless of the language context. Just like French, Italian or Spanish.

  12. ↑ Novy Twist Thesis: A History of the Record of “I II III”. Most vocal parts were recorded right during live sessions in the studio (atmosphere decides). However, in some songs the words appeared after. So it was with the Minutes. The voice is recorded in a country house 70 km from Moscow. I didn’t have a microphone like in the studio, but there was fresh air and pine floors!
