Raudon Castle (historical names are “Red Castle”, “Raudan Castle”) - the main attraction of the Lithuanian city of Raudone .
The medieval order castle of Bayerburg, once standing on this site, is the scene of an East Prussian legend known as Die weiße Jungfrau der Bayerburg ("The White Lady of Bayerburg").
At the end of the 16th century, the Polish king Sigismund II Augustus handed over the ruins of the castle to the German knight Hieronymus Crispin-Kirshenstein, who built a new castle here. Its pearl was a 34-meter round tower.
In the 18th century, the owners of the Rudone estate were the family Olędzki (Olendzki) h. Rawicz (members of the gentry , the Sejm and the Senate) hired the Lithuanian architect Laurinas Gutsevicius to build a new residence in the classicist style on the site of the old castle.
In 1810, the estate was acquired by His Excellency Prince Platon Zubov . In the 1840s his illegitimate daughter, Sofia Kaisarova, hired the architect Cezaris Anikinis to rebuild the castle in the neo-Gothic style. The last private owners of the estate were Sofia Woxell ( Teeth ) and her Portuguese husband with about. Madeira, Jose Carlos de Faria and Castro.
