Yakov Yakovlevich Belzen ( Jekabs Belzens , Latvian. Jēkabs Belzēns ; September 18, 1870, Patkino village, Aleksandrovsky district , Vladimir Province - September 29, 1937, New York) - Russian and Latvian artist.

Content
Biography
He studied at the gymnasium at the Reformed Church. In 1888-1890 he studied at the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg University.
In 1890 entered the Imperial Academy of Arts; received two small (1892) and two large (1893) silver medals. In 1894 he graduated from the course with the title of class artist of the 3rd degree for the painting "Ghosts".
In the years 1895-1902 he taught at the general school class of the Drawing School OPH.
For some time he worked as a drawing teacher in various educational institutions of St. Petersburg. From 1905 to 1917, he was a teacher in drawing and painting at the Central Technical Drawing School of Baron A. L. Stiegitz in St. Petersburg .
Took part in exhibitions organized by associations of Russian and Latvian artists ( Riga , 1910; Petersburg, 1915; Moscow , 1916). In 1919 he emigrated to Germany . He worked in the book publishing house of A. Devrien, was a cartoonist in the emigrant publications of the left sense.
In 1937 he went to the USA, where he died.
Creativity
The works of E. Belzen consistently reflected the leading, at that point in time, direction - impressionism, post-impressionism, and modern style. Preference was given to the landscape and portrait, was known as a good colorist.
The most famous works are: “Portrait of a Girl” (1910), “Portrait of a Woman” (1916), “Jurmala” (?) [1] .
