History of the creation of a series of films
In 1997, Constantin Film acquired the rights to create the movie Resident Evil from Capcom . The original film was proposed by George Romero . [1] He wrote a script that practically repeated the plot of the first Resident Evil game. However, the idea of Romero was never realized, and he dropped out of the project. At the end of 2000, director Paul Anderson wrote a script different from Romero, which was an original story that took from the game only a basic idea about Umbrella Corporation and the living dead. Anderson's script was approved, and Milla Jovovich was assigned to the main role. [2] In March 2001, filming began in Germany, and a year later the film was released.
The commercial success of the first film predicted the appearance of the second part. Anderson could not become a director, as he was already busy working in another project, but he wrote the script and became one of the producers. The director of the second part was Alexander Witt .
In 2005, Screen Gems acquired the rights to create the third film in the series. Anderson is back as a screenwriter and producer. The director was Russell Mulkahi . Filming took place in Mexico. [3] In September 2007, the film was released.
The fourth film was announced in mid-2009. Anderson returned to the director’s chair. Filming was conducted from September to December 2009 and took place simultaneously on two continents. When filming the new part, Paul Anderson collaborated with the company of James Cameron, using his 3D-movie camera. [four]
The fifth part of the film was released on September 14, 2012. Filming took place in Toronto and Ontario from mid-October to December 23, 2011.
Initially, Anderson planned to shoot the fifth and sixth parts in parallel, but later he decided to focus only on the fifth part. In an interview, Anderson said he expects to make another film and this will be the series finale. [5] The head of Sony confirmed that the sixth film will be shot with Milla Jovovich in the title role. [6]
On March 4, 2013, it was announced that the sixth part was scheduled for September 2014 [7] , however, due to the pregnancy of Milla Jovovich, the shooting was postponed to the summer of 2015, and the release of the film moved to January 2017.
In May 2017, chairman Konstantin Martin Moshkovich said that a decision had been made to restart the franchise [8] . James Van is currently writing the script with Greg Russo for the remake [9] .
Story
In a series of feature films, Umbrella Corporation acts as the main antagonist . According to the plot, the corporation was one of the largest pharmaceutical conglomerates based in Europe. As a result of a deliberate incident, Umbrella becomes guilty of a biological disaster. Humanity began to perish, and a few years later the world turned into hell, in which people devour their own kind. At the same time, the power of the corporation did not die out, on the contrary, it became even more powerful. Amid the apocalypse, Umbrella was able to achieve complete power in the world. The hegemony of the corporation is opposed by its former employee - Alice . It is a bio-weapon created by the corporation. The T-virus, which destroyed almost the entire population of the planet, changed the girl, rewarding her with superhuman abilities. Throughout the series of films, the heroine fights not only with a hostile commercial structure, but also with hordes of the dead and mutants, which the Umbrella Corporation uses over and over again to destroy the remains of humanity.
