Archimandrite Fotiy (in the world Arkady Alexandrovich Romanovsky ; 1822 , Moscow - October 18, 1861 ) - archimandrite of the Russian Orthodox Church , member of the spiritual censorship committee in St. Petersburg.
Biography
Born in 1822 in Moscow in the family of a priest .
In 1842 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary and entered the Moscow Theological Academy .
On August 1, 1843, while studying at the Academy, he tonsured monasticism with the name Photius , was ordained ordained hierodeacon on August 8, and hieromonk on July 9, 1846.
At the end of the academic course in 1846 he entered the Tver Theological Seminary as a mentor in dogmatic theology and an assistant inspector.
In 1850 he was moved to the Novgorod Theological Seminary as an assistant rector and teacher, and in 1851 he was made an inspector of the seminary.
May 29, 1853 elevated to the rank of archimandrite .
On October 28 of that year, Archimandrite Fotiy was appointed rector of the Polotsk Theological Seminary , and he was assigned the duties of a member of the consistory , deanery monasteries and an auditor of the schools under the seminary.
From November 10, 1855, Archimandrite Photius held the same positions as in Polotsk, in Orel, and in 1858 he was appointed a member of the spiritual censorship committee in St. Petersburg.
In 1861, he was appointed rector of the Domnitsky (Dumnitsky) monastery of the Chernigov diocese , but in the same year he asked for his dismissal and died on the eve of the decision on his resignation. He donated his extensive library to the Novgorod seminary.
