Biography
Andrey Ignatiev was born on September 6, 1921 in the village of Meshcherskoye (now Podolsky District, Moscow Region ). He graduated from ten classes of school. In 1940, Ignatiev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In November 1941, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. From January 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He finished advanced training courses for commanders at the Pushkin Tank School and in February 1944 returned to the front, was appointed commander of the tank of the 2nd bank battalion of the 1st Guards Tank Brigade of the 1st tank army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the Proskurov-Chernivtsi operation [1] .
On the morning of March 27, 1944, a tank of Ignatiev, as part of a group of tanks with arrows on armor, broke through into the German rear and dispersed and destroyed several German barriers, defeated a German airfield. In battle, Ignatieff's tank received serious damage, the gunner-radio operator was killed, the driver was contused, and Ignatiev himself was heavily wounded in the legs. Despite this, Ignatiev managed to knock out a German tank. The actions of the tankers of the group contributed to the successful liberation of Kolomiya by the main forces [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 24, 1944, for "exemplary performance of combat tasks of command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and courage and heroism shown" Star ” at number 4455 [1] .
Ignatiev no longer returned to the front, after the end of hostilities he was transferred to the reserve. In 1950 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of International Relations , after which he worked at the Soviet Information Bureau . After graduating from the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the CPSU , he worked first in the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and in 1964 he was sent to work in the Soviet representation in the United Nations . Later he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief of the Yearbook of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia; he held this position for almost 20 years before his retirement. He lived in Moscow , died on March 19, 2012 [1] .
Honorary Citizen of Kolomyya . Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR . He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
