Biography
Ivan Ignatenko was born on June 23, 1917 in the village of Slavyanskaya (now the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban in the Krasnodar Territory ). He graduated from the school and the Slavic Agricultural College, after which he worked as an agronomist at the state farm . In September 1941, Ignatenko was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the regimental school. Since August 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in battles in the North Caucasus , Steppe , 2nd Ukrainian , Trans-Baikal fronts. In February 1943, was injured. By the autumn of 1943, the guard sergeant Ivan Ignatenko commanded the reconnaissance unit of the 1st battery of the 247th guards artillery regiment of the 110th guards rifle division of the 37th army of the Steppe Front. Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper [1] .
September 30, 1943 Ignatenko crossed the Dnieper near the village Kutsevolovka Onufrievsky district of the Kirovograd region of the Ukrainian SSR and conducted reconnaissance, finding the enemy firing positions. In the battles on the bridgehead, he corrected the fire of artillery batteries, so that the fire of 1 artillery and 1 mortar batteries was suppressed, 3 guns, 4 machine guns, 1 enemy observation post and near the German infantry company were destroyed. During the repulse of enemy counterattacks, Ignatenko personally destroyed 6 soldiers [1] .
Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 22, 1944 for “exemplary performance of command tasks during the crossing of the Dnieper River, development of combat successes on the right bank of the river and the bravery and heroism shown at the same time” guards foreman Ivan Ignatenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal [1] .
Later he participated in the liberation of the Ukrainian and Moldavian SSR, Romania , Hungary , Czechoslovakia , and also in the Soviet-Japanese war . After the war, Ignatenko was demobilized. In 1954 he graduated from the Gorky Agricultural Institute. Lived and worked in Krasnodar . He died on February 6, 2010, was buried in Krasnodar [1] .
Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Honored Teacher of vocational training of the RSFSR. Honorary Citizen of Krasnodar. He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree and the Red Star , along with a number of medals.
The bust and portrait of Ignatenko is installed in the Alley of Heroes in Slavyansk-on-Kuban [1] .
