Jind ( Eng. Jind , Hindi जींद ) is a city in northern India , in the state of Haryana , the administrative center of the eponymous district .

History
In the past, the city was the capital of the same name a native principality [1] , founded in 1763 by the Raja Gajpat Singh. From 1809 to 1947, Jind was under a British protectorate . In 1948, the principality became part of the State of Patial and the Union of Eastern Punjab states of independent India.
Geography
The city is located in the central part of Haryana, at an altitude of 226 meters above sea level [2] . Jind is located approximately 155 kilometers southwest (SSW) from Chandigarh , the state’s administrative center, and 80 kilometers northwest of New Delhi , the country's capital.
Demographics
According to the official census of 2011, the population of the city was 166,225 people, of which 53.3% were men, 46.7% were women. The literacy rate of the population was 74.16%. Among men, the literacy rate was 80.3%, among women - 67.1%. 11.3% of the population were children under 6 years old [3] .
Economics and Transport
The city is a center of grain trade. A number of ginning enterprises are also located on its territory [4] .
Jinda connects with other cities in India by rail and road. The nearest airport ( ICAO : VIBW) is located in Bhiwani [2] .
