Player Career

He played the position of attacking defender . He studied at Indiana University in Bloomington , in 1976 was selected for the NBA draft under the 7th number by the Milwaukee Bucks team. Later he played for the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers teams. In total, the NBA spent 10 seasons. In 1972 he became the best basketball player among high school students . In the "Celtics" Buckner in 1984 became the champion of the NBA . Four times included in the 2nd team of all the stars of the defense of the NBA (1978, 1980-1982). In 1976, Buckner became the champion of the National University Sports Association (NCAA) . In total for the career in the NBA played 719 games in which scored 5929 points (an average of 8.2 per game), made 1969 rebounds , 3114 assists , 1337 interceptions and 80 block shots .

In 1974, Buckner won the bronze medals at the World Basketball Championship in Puerto Rico for the US team . In 1975, he became the champion of the Pan American Games in Mexico City , in which he took part as a substitute. In 1976, he became the Olympic champion of the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal in the US team .

Career Coach

After completing his professional career, he coached the Dallas Mavericks team (1993–1994).
