Youth and the beginning of military service
Boris Ivanov was born on June 28, 1921 in Petrograd (now St. Petersburg ). He graduated from high school in 1938. In September 1938, B.P. Ivanov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1940, he graduated from the Oryol Armored School named after M.V. Frunze . Since February 1940, he commanded a tank platoon in the 23rd light tank brigade , since August - in the 29th tank regiment of the 15th tank division of the Kiev Special Military District . In February 1941, he was appointed deputy commander of a tank company of the 29th Panzer Regiment of the 19th Panzer Division of the same district.
World War II
Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II . He met the war in the same position on the Southwestern Front , participated in defensive battles of the first period of the war , including in the tank battle for Dubno - Lutsk - Brody . After the dissolution of the division due to losses, he was sent to the North Caucasus Military District , where he became commander of a tank company in the 4th Panzer Brigade . Since November 1941, again at the front, adjutant senior tank battalion of the 22nd Panzer Brigade of the Western Front. In September 1942 he was wounded in battle, after recovering he became deputy commander of a tank battalion. His team at that time was part of the 6th Panzer Corps of the Western Front . In the 22nd brigade, he happened to go through the most difficult and bloody battles of 1942 and the beginning of 1943 - the Rzhev-Sychevsky offensive operation , operation "Mars" , the Old Russian operation . And already in January 1943 he became commander of a tank battalion of the same 22nd tank brigade of the 6th tank corps . For the differences in personnel in the battles in October 1943, both the brigade and corps became guards , having received the names of the 40th Guards Tank Brigade and the 11th Guards Tank Corps . In their ranks the battalion commander B.P. Ivanov marched until Victory.
In the battles he was wounded twice more (in July 1943 and in 1944). He participated in the Battle of Kursk , Belgorod-Kharkov , Sumy-Priluki , Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya , Proskurov-Chernivtsi , Lviv-Sandomir , Vistula-Oder and East Pomeranian . In April 1945, the commander of the tank battalion of the 40th Guards Tank Brigade of the 11th Guards Tank Corps of the 1st Guards Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front of the Guard Major Boris Ivanov was especially distinguished during the assault on Berlin [1] .
On April 21, 1945, Ivanov’s battalion broke into the Karlshorst suburb of Berlin, and on the same day, together with the infantry, completely cleared him of the enemy, destroying 7 tanks and assault guns, a large amount of manpower. Having gone to Spree , the battalion successfully crossed through it. On April 22, he took an active part in the capture of the Treptow district of Berlin. In total, in those battles Ivanov’s battalion captured more than 30 Berlin quarters, destroyed 9 tanks and assault guns, 6 anti-aircraft guns and 4 field guns, 13 machine guns , 173 enemy soldiers and officers, and 87 more were taken prisoner [1] . During the Berlin operation he was introduced to the title of Hero.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, for the “courage and heroism shown in the fight against the German invaders” of the guard, Major Boris Ivanov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
Post-War Service
After the war, Ivanov continued to serve in the Soviet Army . In the summer of 1945, he became commander of the 1454th self-propelled artillery regiment in the 11th Guards Tank Corps of the 1st Guards Tank Army of the Group of Soviet Occupation Troops in Germany , but already in August, as a particularly distinguished and promising commander, was sent to study at the academy. In 1949, he graduated from the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Forces named after I.V. Stalin . Since October 1949, he commanded the 79th Guards Heavy Tank Self-propelled Regiment of the 7th Guards Tank Division . Since March 1952, he served in the command of the commander of the armored and mechanized forces of the Soviet Army : senior officer of the combat training department, from May 1953 - senior officer of the tactical training department, from January 1954 - senior officer of the department of military educational institutions and educational units. From May 1954 to January 1956 he was again in combat service, being deputy commander of the 12th Guards Mechanized Division .
In 1956 he graduated from the one-year Higher Academic Courses at the Frunze Military Academy . Since November 1956 - commander of the 29th Panzer Division in the Belarusian Military District . In July 1960 he was again sent to study, in 1962 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR . Since July 1962, he served as deputy army commander in combat training - head of the combat training department of the 1st separate army in the Kiev military district . Since January 1965 - First Deputy Commander of the 13th Army of the Carpathian Military District , in April 1967 he was appointed deputy commander of the troops of the Carpathian Military District for combat training and military schools. From July 1968 he was first deputy commander, and from October 1969 to December 1975 he commanded the Southern Group of Forces ( Hungary ). Since January 1976 he served as first deputy chief of the Civil Defense of the USSR . In 1986 he participated in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident . In September 1987, Colonel General B.P. Ivanov resigned.
He lived in Moscow . He died on December 27, 1994, was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
