Geography
Leger-Cap-Ferret is located on the territory of the region of Pays de Bouche ; The commune stretched along the Cap Ferret peninsula , which separates the Gulf of Arcachon from the Atlantic Ocean and, thus, protects the inner basin of Arcachon from ocean disturbances.
History
For a very long time, Cape Cap Ferret was an exceptionally temporary refuge for the fishermen of the bay. The cape was covered with dunes and a pine forest. Gradually, some fishermen settled permanently on the peninsula, and a village formed here. The development of Arcachon as a sea resort contributed to a large increase in tourism along the entire coast of the bay, and at the beginning of the 20th century the first tourists appeared on the peninsula.
This territory has long belonged to the municipality of La Teste de Bouche . In 1976, the independent commune Leger-Cap-Ferret was formed, stretching for 25 kilometers. On its territory there are many villages and farms.
