History
The band was founded in 2011 by the brothers Sam, Zack, and Elliott Margin, along with their childhood friend, Scott Baldwin. The groups that defined The Rubens' musical style include Stone Temple Pilots and Kings of Leon , performing post-grunge and garage rock , respectively [2] . The debut single, The Rubens, “Lay It Down,” got a rotation on the Australian national radio station Triple J, and at the end of the year, critics of Triple J placed “Lay It Down” on the 57th line in their list of the hundred most popular songs of 2011 [3] . The video clip for the second single “My Gun” was nominated for an award by the Australian Recording Association in the category “Best Video”, but lost to Missy Higgins tape “Everyone's Waiting” [4] . The band's debut full-length album, entitled The Rubens , reached 3rd place in the ARIA Charts charts [5] , and was also nominated for the Triple J award “J Award” as “Album of the Year” [6] .
