Qualification

The women's pole vault competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics took place on August 21 and 24 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens . The competition was attended by 35 athletes: 18 athletes in the qualification round were in group A, another 17 in group B.

Representatives of Eastern Europe took the podium: the representative of Russia Elena Isinbaeva became the Olympic champion, for whom this Olympic medal was the first; another Russian athlete Svetlana Feofanova won the silver medal, and Anna Rogovskaya, a Polish girl, won the bronze medal. Yelena Isinbaeva, having won the hardest duel against Svetlana Feofanova, also set Olympic and world records, breaking a height of 4.91 m on the first attempt. Another sensation was the failure of American Stacy Dragil , champion and record holder of the previous Games of 2000, in the final part.
