Sebastian Köber was born on May 28, 1979 in Frankfurt an der Oder , state of Brandenburg . Already at a young age, he started practicing at the local boxing club, and in 1996 for the first time won the German Junior Championship. A year later, he repeated this achievement; moreover, he was a winner at the European Junior Championships in Birmingham. At the 2001 World Championships in Belfast at the quarter-finals stage, future world champion David Haye became the rival of Koeber, and the German boxer could not beat him. This was followed by the transition to the heavyweight division and performance at the European championship in Perm, where Kober won a bronze medal, losing only to Russian Alexander Povetkin .
