Biography
Born on October 30, 1922 in the village of Gumnishchevo, Yaroslavl Uyezd, Yaroslavl Province [1] . In 1937 he graduated from 7 classes of a school in Moscow , in 1940 - 2 courses of the Moscow Railway College.
In the army since July 1940. Until December 1940 he studied at the Olsufev Military Aviation School for Pilots. In 1941 he graduated from the Balashov Military Aviation School of Pilots , until July 1942 he was a pilot instructor in it. In July-December 1942 - pilot of the 34th reserve aviation regiment.
Member of the Great Patriotic War : in December 1942 - March 1945 - pilot, senior pilot, deputy commander and commander of the air squadron of the 66th (from February 1944 - 140th Guards) assault aviation regiment, in March-May 1945 - navigator of the 143rd Guards assault aviation regiment. He fought on the Kalinin , North-West , Voronezh , Stepnoy , 2nd and 1st Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the Velikiye Luki operation , the Battle of Kursk , the Belgorod-Kharkov operation , the liberation of the Left-Bank Ukraine and the battle for the Dnieper , Kirovograd , Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya , Umansko-Botoshanskaya , Lviv-Sandomierz , Sandomierz-Silesia , Berlin and Prague operations. During the war, made 144 sorties on the Il-2 attack aircraft for delivering strikes against manpower and enemy equipment.
For courage and heroism shown in the battles, Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945 guards Captain Ovchinnikov Alexander Pavlovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .
After the war, until March 1946 he continued to serve in the Air Force as the navigator of the air regiment (in the Central Group of Forces ). In 1951 he graduated from the Air Force Academy ( Monino ). Since February 1952, Major A.P. Ovchinnikov is in stock.
He lived in Moscow . He died on May 20, 2004 . He was buried at the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery in Moscow.
