History and Current Status
The ProjectLibre program was developed by the creators of its predecessor, OpenProj . At the end of 2008, Projity was acquired by Serena Software.
OpenProj was purchased by Serena in 2008. Immediately after the sale, support for the product was discontinued due to the threat of lawsuits from Microsoft regarding the copying of interface solutions and the source code of the product was posted free of charge on the Internet.
In August 2012, the founders announced a fork of the project called ProjectLibre. The developers plan to completely rewrite the application code, so that soon ProjectLibre can technically remove the fork.
