“Babek” ( azerb. Babək ) is a ballet in two acts dedicated to the national liberation struggle led by Babek against foreign invaders. The music of the Azerbaijani composer Akshin Alizade . The authors of the libretto are Rafiga Akhundova and Maksud Mammadov .

The premiere of the ballet took place on May 20, 1986 in the Palace. V. I. Lenin [1] (now - the Palace named after Heydar Aliyev ). The performance was staged by the team of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. M.F. Akhundova . At the premiere in the title party was the winner of the All-Union competition Vitaly Akhundov [1] . Four performances took place in the palace. Then the ballet was shown at the State Opera and Ballet Theater.
The composer himself said that for him this is a work for which he was born and lived:
| “Babek” is my whole life. I put a lot of effort into it. When I worked on ballet, I felt like a gladiator . I wrote it for about 10 years. [2] |
