After graduating from the Krasnoyarsk State Medical Institute, he worked as a pediatrician at the Rybinsk District Hospital (Krasnoyarsk Territory). Since 1967, begins his research in the field of pediatrics. In 1974, V. T. Manchuk defended his thesis on the topic: "Some features of carbohydrate metabolism in newborn children whose mothers are engaged in the production of antibiotics."

With the organization in 1976 of the Scientific Research Institute of Medical Problems of the North of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, V.T. Manchuk was invited there as the head of the clinical department of newborn children. He takes an active part in the development and implementation of state long-term scientific programs: “North-human ecology”, “Health of the population of Siberia”, “Health of the population of the Krasnoyarsk Territory”, “Children of the North,“ Five-year health plan of the Norilsk industrial region. ”These programs allowed to obtain new fundamental data on the formation of the health of children and adults living in extreme environmental conditions of the northern territories of the country. Clinical and metabolic adaptation of newborn children of various ethnic groups of small ethnic groups of the North and the newcomer when exposed to extreme factors of high northern latitudes formed the basis of a doctoral dissertation defended in 1990: "Clinical and metabolic features of adaptation of newborn children in the ecological conditions of the Far North." Valery Timofeevich Manchuk created a scientific direction and a large scientific school to study the influence of environmental factors of the North on the body of children from the moment that of his birth until adolescence. The fundamental data obtained by him personally and his many students on the characteristics of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in children in ontogenesis are normal and in various forms of childhood pathology, the prevalence of non-communicable diseases among the indigenous and newcomers of the Far North and Siberia, and the state of intracellular metabolism in immune cells systems in children in the North, on the effect of iodine deficiency in the environment on the development of the children's body and the formation of leading functional systems of the body It is important not only for science but also for practical public health, as used for the development of methodological approaches for predicting health and early detection of an emerging disease in the child population. The author of 21 monographs, 740 publications, 32 scientific collections were published under his editorship. One of the leading scientists of Siberia in the field of pediatrics. He is a member of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, a member of the executive committee of the Union of Pediatricians of Russia, heads the Problem Commission No. 55.16 “Health Protection of Indigenous and Small Peoples of Siberia and the North”, Scientific Council No. 55 of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, a member of the Public Council at the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a member of the specialized Council for Doctoral Protection and candidate dissertations at the Krasnoyarsk State Medical University, expert of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Science Foundation, a member of the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals. Under his scientific supervision 13 doctoral and 32 master's theses were prepared and defended. For his contribution to the development of medical science and the protection of the health of the population of Siberia and the Far North, Valery Timofeevich was awarded the Order of Friendship (2006), the medal "For the construction and development of the Baikal-Amur Railway" (1986), the badge "Excellent Health" ( 1981), the "Order of N.I. Pirogov" of the European Association of Physicians (2008), the emblem of the city of Krasnoyarsk, the VDNH gold and silver medals, and diplomas of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. In August 2010, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation”.
