Uzboy Valley

Uzboy Valley [1] ( lat. and English. Uzboi Vallis ) - a valley that is a long channel on the surface of Mars . It is located south of the Martian equator, at the point with coordinates [2] The maximum length of the valley is 366 km. It is named after the dry channels and dead valleys - Uzboy , located on the territory of Turkmenistan .

The valley begins at the northern edge of the Argir Plain, and passing through several craters ends in the impact crater Holden .

Uzboy Valley was probably formed by running water . It is believed that layers at the bottom of the valley formed when the flow of water that came from the northern edge of Holden Crater was blocked. A new lake was formed, which gradually increased in size, in the end, water poured over the crater shaft and eroded the nearby area, forming the layers that are visible today. Sediments consisting of these layers are large, it is assumed that they were formed by fast flows of water [3] .

Now the Uzboy Valley, the Ladon Valley , Pearl Land and the Ares Valley are separated by large craters, but it is assumed that once they were part of one large channel through which water flowed north to the plain of Chris [4] . Water in this channel came from a large depression Argir , previously filled to the brim. According to this hypothesis, the total length of this system of valleys is over 8000 km. This is the longest of the valleys known in the solar system .
