Biography
Born on September 27 ( October 10 ), 1909 in the village of Mezhevo, Orsha district, Mogilev province [1] . In 1926 he graduated from 7 classes of a school in Orsha , in 1927 - 1 year of the Orsha Pedagogical College.
In the Red Army since December 1927. In 1928 he graduated from the Air Force Military Theoretical School in Leningrad , in 1930 - from the 3rd Military School of Pilots and Letnabs named after K. E. Voroshilov in Orenburg . Since June 1930, he served as a junior pilot of the reconnaissance squadron of the 20th Aviation Brigade of the Kharkov Military District , since 1921 he was a senior pilot of the 8th separate cruising special forces squadron in the Air Force of the Ukrainian Military District , and in April 1932 he commanded this squadron. Since January 1933 he studied at the Academy.
In 1936 he graduated from the N.E. Zhukovsky Air Force Academy . Since November 1936 - commander of the 15th cruising squadron of the Air Force of the Kiev Military District (Kirovo). Since June 1937 - commander of the 16th fighter squadron. Since April 1938 - commander of a fighter squadron in the 5th heavy bomber aviation regiment of the 1st heavy bomber aviation brigade of the KOVO Air Force. Since July 1939 - pilot inspector of the Air Force piloting technique of the 1st Separate Red Banner Army (in the Far East ).
Since May 1941 - commander of the 69th mixed air division (in the Far East ), since July - deputy commander of this division. From October 1941 - the commander of the 136th mixed air division (in the Central Asian military district ), in February-November 1942 - the commander of the 19th reserve aviation regiment (in the Siberian military district ), in November 1942 - January 1943 - the commander of the 160th fighter aviation regiment [2] , undergoing reformation in the rear.
Member of the Great Patriotic War : in February-June 1943 - the commander of the 297th fighter aviation regiment , in June-October 1943 - the commander of the air squadron of the 193rd fighter aviation regiment , in October-December 1943 - the pilot-inspector for piloting the 302nd fighter aviation division of the 4th fighter aviation corps , in December 1943 - May 1945 - commander of the 240th (from July 1944 - 178th guards ) fighter aviation regiment. He fought on the Bryansk , Voronezh , Stepnoy and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in defensive battles in the Voronezh direction, the Battle of Kursk , the Belgorod-Kharkov operation , the battle of the Dnieper , Kirovograd , Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya , Iasi-Kishinev , Debrecen , Budapest , Vienna , Bratislava-Brnovsk and Prague operations. During the war, he made 128 sorties on La-5 and La-7 fighters, in 34 air battles he personally shot down 17 enemy aircraft. [3]
For courage and heroism shown in the battles, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 4, 1944, Major Olkhovsky Nikolai Ivanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal .
After the war, until 1948 he continued to command the same air regiment (in the Southern Group of Forces , Bulgaria ). Since August 1948 - an adjunct of the department of tactics of fighter aviation and air defense of the Air Force Academy ( Monino ). From February 1950 - senior inspector in piloting technique of the 71st fighter air corps in the 24th Air Army ( Group of Soviet occupation forces in Germany ), from December 1951 to May 1952 - head of the operational department of the 6th Guards Fighter Air Division (in the Group Soviet occupation forces in Germany ). Since August 1952 - Chief of Staff of the 865th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 29th Air Army (in the Far Eastern Military District ). Since September 1953, Lieutenant Colonel N.I. Olkhovsky is in stock.
After leaving the army, he worked as a crane operator at a construction site.
He lived in Moscow . He died on August 26, 1978 . He was buried at the Khimki cemetery in Moscow.
