Today's town of Eani is located near the Aliakmon River, 22 kilometers south of the city of Kozani . Eani since 2010 has the status of the historical center of Nom Kozani [1] . Its name Eani comes from the ancient Macedonian city named Eanes, Eani and Ean (Greek Αιάνες, Αιάνη, Αίανα), which belonged to the region of Elimius (Greek Ελιμία) [2] , the former capital of the Eans (Greek Αιάνmi ι ли ли э or ) Ancient Eani is located 1.5 kilometers from today's town. The founder of Eani refers to Eanos (Greek Αιανός), the son of Elim (Greek γιός του Ελύμου) of the king of the Macedonian city of Tirrena (Greek βασιλέως των Τυρρηνών, μιας Μακεδονικής). [3]

Museum

Although the museum was opened in 1970 with a collection of antiquities from the ancient city of Eani, since 1983 a large number of other finds have made it necessary to expand the museum in order to accept new exhibits. Excavations confirmed the existence of an organized city dating from the second millennium BC. e. until 100 BC e. when it was abandoned, probably after the earthquake. Important architectural elements, burials dating from prehistoric times to the late Hellenistic period were excavated. The construction of the new museum began in 1992, but the opening of the museum was delayed for various reasons including the March 13, 1995 earthquake . The finds were stored in various places, including the city hall, the construction of the museum was finally completed in 1997, but only two museum exhibition halls were opened in October 2002 [4] . Located today in a two-story building, the Archaeological Museum of Eani displays the history of the ancient city, the capital of Elimia (Greek Ελιμία, Ελιμιώτις, Ελιμεία), which was one of the most important semi-autonomous kingdoms of Upper Macedonia . The museum includes eight exhibition halls, but only two of them are open to visitors, as well as storage rooms, offices, a library, a sketching studio, a multi-purpose exhibition / lecture hall and a laboratory for the conservation of metal and terracotta items. From 1995 to October 2002, the multipurpose hall stores a collection of icons, texts, maps and copies of antiquities. Important collections include finds from the Late Bronze Age (1500–1200 BC) and the Archaic and Classical periods (600–500 BC), which provide important information on the origin of the Dorian Macedonian nationalities in the region as well as on the development of Eani, in particular in the 6th century BC e.
