Biography
Nikolay Subbotin was born in 1908 in Kharkov . In 1942, Subbotin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By March 1943, the Red Army guard Nikolai Subbotin was a rifleman of the 78th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 25th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Army of the Southwestern Front [1] .
On March 2 - 6, 1943, Subbotin, as part of his platoon, commanded by Lieutenant Shironin , participated in repelling counterattacks of German tank and infantry units at the railway crossing on the southern outskirts of the village of Taranovka, Zmiyovsky district, Kharkiv region, Ukrainian SSR . In those battles he died. He was buried in a mass grave on the battlefield [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 18, 1943, the Red Army soldier Nikolai Subbotin was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for “exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” by the Guard. He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin [1] .
