Biography

Mikhail Zuev was born on June 18, 1918 at the station Ershovo (now - Ershov district of the Saratov region ). He graduated from school and three courses of the Saratov Transport Polytechnic. In 1937, Zuev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He graduated from the Engels Military Aviation School.

Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. He took part in the battles on the Western , Stalingrad , Southern , 4th and 1st Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the battle for Moscow , the Battle of Stalingrad , the liberation of the Ukrainian SSR , Crimea , Poland , Czechoslovakia , and battles in Germany . During the war, twice wounded [1] .

By the beginning of 1944, Captain Mikhail Zuyev commanded a squadron of the 73rd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 6th Guards Fighter Air Division of the 8th Air Army of the Southern Front. By that time he had made 335 sorties, and personally shot down 12 enemy aircraft in air battles [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 4, 1944, Captain Mikhail Zuev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 1282 [1] .

After the war, Zuev continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1958, with the rank of colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in Kiev . He died on May 14, 1981, and was buried in the Baykovsky cemetery of Kiev [1] .

He was also awarded four orders of the Red Banner , orders of Alexander Nevsky and the Red Star , and a number of medals [1] .
