History
Historically, Stepanschino was part of the Chaplyzhen parish .
In August 1380, Russian warriors passed through the village, through Kolomna , to the Kulikovo battle . In the first half of the 16th century, the village of Chaplygino and the village of Stepanshchino became the estate of the Koltovsky nobles. By 1577–1578 a landowner’s courtyard (or courtyards) already stood in Stepanshchino, and therefore it was called a village. In the scribal book of these years, the names of five owners are named: Mikhail Ignatievich Koltovsky owned two thirds of Chaplygin, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin was located on his share of the village. His cousin Lawrence Danilovich Koltovsky owned a small estate, which included "half of the villagers Stepanchischev on the river on Setovka." The other half and the remaining third of the village of Chaplygin were listed as the widow of another cousin, Semyon Ivanovich and her two children.
In the years 1626−1929 in the Kolomna district was a census of people and land. According to the results of this census, it is known that Stepanshino survived in the Time of Troubles , since many other settlements were ravaged many times and forever or for a long time ceased to exist. According to the scribal books in the village of Stepanchishchev, there were 17 courtyards - two landowners' courtyards, 10 courtyards of peasants, and 5 courtyards of bobyla [2] .
Until 1994, Stepanshchino was the center of the Stepanschina village council, and in 1994–2006 it was the center of the Stepanschinsky rural district .
