Biography

Ivan Zuev was born in 1912 in the village of Kopylovo, Velikoluksky district [1] . He graduated from nine classes of the school. In October 1937, Zuev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1939 he graduated from the Kalinin Artillery School. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. He took part in the battles on the Western , Don and Central fronts. By October 1943, Major Ivan Zuev commanded the artillery of the 479th Infantry Regiment of the 149th Infantry Division of the 65th Army of the Central Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [2] .

On October 16, 1943, Zuev was one of the first in the regiment to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Shchittsy, Loevsky District, Gomel Region, Belorussian SSR, and took an active part in the battles for the bridgehead on its western shore. During the reflection of another German counterattack, he was seriously wounded, from whom he died the next day. He was buried in the village of Lopatni, Repki district, Chernihiv region of Ukraine [2] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 24, 1943, for the courage and heroism shown when crossing the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on its right bank, Major Ivan Zuev was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Banner , Red Star , a medal [2] .
