History
The ancient city of Polystylus, identified today with archaeological sites of the ancient Greek city of Abdera , was located in the Roman province of Macedonia of the diocese of Macedonia . The Diocese of Polystylus was founded in the 9th century in the city of Polistilus, which arose on the ruins of the city of ancient Greek Abdera. In the first half of the 14th century, the city of Polistilus was destroyed by an earthquake and the diocese ceased to exist.
The Diocese of Polystylus was part of the Philippine Metropolis . The only bishop of Polystylus is known by the name of Demetrius, who took part in the Fourth Council of Constantinople in 879.
