It was founded in the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) in 1963 under the title World Heavyweight Champion WWWF (eng. WWWF World Heavyweight Championship ). The first champion is Buddy Rogers . Since its inception, the title has undergone many changes due to the change of the company name. Is the oldest active and most prestigious title in WWE.
From its inception until 2001, this title was the only main title of WWE. An additional WCW Champion title was added after the World Wrestling Federation bought its competitor World Championship Wrestling in early 2001. Later, these two titles were merged into the title of undisputed WWF champion ( Undisputed WWF Champion ). After the division into Raw and SmackDown brands , the title shifted from one brand to another, mainly as a result of the transition of wrestlers to draft. The current version of the title was created as a result of the merger with the World Heavyweight Champion title in 2013. The title again became the only WWE main title until the new division of brands in 2016.

History
Origin
The title was created in 1963 , Buddy Rogers became the first champion. However, its origins are related to events that began at the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). In the 1950s, Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC) was a member of NWA. In 1963, Buddy Rogers retained the title of world heavyweight champion NWA (eng. NWA World Heavyweight Champion ). On January 24, 1963, Lou Tesz won the title with Rogers in a match up to one withholding. At that time, the title could change the owner only in a match with two deductions from three (English 2-out-of-3 falls match ). The promotion challenged the champion change, and as a result of this conflict, the CWC withdrew from the NWA and was transformed into the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF).
Created the title of world champion in the heavyweight WWWF (eng. WWWF World Heavyweight Championship ) was awarded to Buddy Rogers for the alleged victory in the kneaded tournament in Rio de Janeiro , allegedly defeating Antonino Rocca in the final. A few years later, WWWF rejoined the NWA, and the word “World” was removed from the title title. In 1979, WWWF was renamed the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and then after the final termination of relations with the NWA in 1983, the title became known as the title of world champion in the WWF World Heavyweight Championship . Although the full name remained on the belts until 1998, the name was often shortened to the WWF champion ( official WWF Champion) , which became the official title of tituila in 1998.
Union titles
After that, they merged with the WCW world heavyweight champion title , the merger took place on December 9, 2001 at PPV Revenge 2001 after Chris Jericho won these 2 titles. After that, the titles were defended under the name Undisputed WWE Champion . And on April 1, 2002, during the presentation by Rick Flair of the new Triple H champion, a new WWF United champion title was introduced. During Hulk Hogan's “Hollywood” championship, WWF lost its abbreviation to the Wildlife Protection Foundation and was renamed World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and on the champion title, the old WWF logo changed to WWE. The title style is the same. On August 26, 2002, the then champion, Brock Lesnar , rejected title protection from the wrestler of the RAW brand and the first contender for the Triple H title. Lesnar declared that he would defend the Title only from the wrestler of the SmackDown! , despite the rules by which the undisputed champion protects the title from wrestlers of both brands.
After the actions of Lesnar, RAW arena general manager Eric Bischoff created a world heavyweight title and awarded him Triple H on September 2, 2002, making him the first RAW champion. After that, the title Lesnar became known simply as the WWE Champion , without the prefix "undisputed." Both titles have become exclusive for the two brands.
The WWE title was exclusive to SmackDown! from August 26, 2002, to June 6, 2005, when the then WWE champion John Cena was transferred to RAW during the draft. Both titles were exclusive to RAW - until the moment Batista , at that time world heavyweight champion, was transferred to SmackDown! June 30, 2005.
Before PPV One night Stand on June 11, 2006, Paul Heyman said that if ECW wrestler Rob Van Dam won the WWE title at PPV, the title would be renamed ECW World Heavyweight Championship . After Rob Van Dam won the Title from John Cena, he was featured on WWE.com as the WWE / ECW Champion. On the ECW on Sci Fi premiere episode on June 13, 2006, Heiman awarded Rob with the belt of ECW heavyweight world champion.
WWE released The History of the WWE Championship DVD on September 5, 2006.
Belt Design
The design of the championship belt has changed many times. The current belt is a large WWE logo in rhinestone and gold on a black leather plate. There are interchangeable side plates to the left and right of the main plate, the logo of the wrestler owning the title in this one is affixed to them.
Special versions of the belts were created for six champions: for “Superstar” Billy Graham (slightly modified plate and red belt), Last Warrior (white, blue and purple belt), Sergeant Slaughter (purple belt, so he won it from the Last Warrior), “ Ice Lumps ”by Steve Austin (Special Smoke Skull belt), John Cena ( Spinner Special Belt), and Edge ( Spinner- like belt, only with the Rated R Superstar spinning logo instead of the WWE spinning logo). There was also a special belt for the Rock , with the Brahma Bull logo, but the belt was never put into circulation. Especially for Andre the Giant before Wrestlemania III , a belt with a long belt was created, but Andre did not win the title and this belt never entered the turn; A similar belt was created for Yokozuna during his championship in 1993–1994 .
On the Raw episode of August 21, 2006 , Edge replaced the simple “spinner” with his version of the belt with the twisting logo “Rated R Superstar”, after Lita threw out the old belt in Long Island Sound. After winning the title for the third time, John Cena returned his old belt. On March 21, 2011 , at the RAW episode , the then- current Champion Miz presented his version of the belt. In it, the WWE logo was turned upside down and styled with the letter “M”, which meant Meese.
On February 18, 2013 on Raw, WWE champion Scala said that, in his opinion, the champion's belt should not look like a toy, and introduced a completely new belt.
