Marshal Povet

The Marshal of the Powers ( Marshal of Zemsky , Marshal of Seymic ; Lat. Mareschalus, comitiorum director ) is an official in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . The post was created during the administrative-territorial reform of 1555-1556 by changing the duties and powers of the Marshal Gospodar .

The Marshal of the Povetial convened and headed the meetings of the nobility of the Povet - seymics . In the main district of each province, these functions were performed by the kashtelyan , therefore there was no separate position in these districts of the Marshal of the district. During the war, the marshal collected the Commonwealth crumbling and transferred it to the governor .

The marshal was appointed by the Grand Duke of Lithuania for the life of four candidates selected by the gentry on the Sejm. The competence of Marshal Povet was determined by the Diet Constitution of 1631.
