Epsilon of the Southern Cross (ε Cru, ε Crucis) is a star in the constellation of the Southern Cross . Sometimes called Intrometida (intrusion) in Portuguese . [3] Visible magnitude 3.56 (visible to the naked eye). The star is classified as an orange giant, it is 228 light years from Earth.

The bright blue star to the right of the center of the image is ε Crucis. The colors used in this image represent specific wavelengths in infrared light. Blue is emitted at 3.4 and 4.6 microns.
The Epsilon of the Southern Cross is represented on the flags of Australia and Papua New Guinea , as one of the five stars in the Southern Cross. Also on the flag of Brazil, it symbolizes the state of Espiritu Santo [4] .
