Body length 22 cm. The color of the plumage is green. The back and abdomen are light green. The upper chest and crown have a bluish tint. The front of the head, cheeks, forehead and throat are light gray. The fold of the wing is dark blue, its lower side in front of a bright orange color. The beak is light.
It lives in South America from Paraguay and Northern Argentina to Bolivia and Suriname . It was introduced to the United States and has populations in the south, in Florida and California.
They feed mainly on plant seeds and fruits.
Nests usually in hollows of trees. In clutch there are 3-4 eggs . Chicks appear after 4 weeks, approximately by the end of 2 months they fly out of the nest.

- The small-billed yellow-winged parrot Brotogeris versicolorus chiriri has been recognized as an independent species since 1997.
